ABOUT OUR FARM

James and Linky Smith are the owners and farmers of Gantouw Farm. They are passionate about natural, organic farming and making their home-grown produce available to the public. With over 26 varieties of heirloom garlic seed from around the world. James and Linky are delighted to share this offering with South African gardeners.
Gantouw Farm is situated in the Sir Lowrys Pass overlooking False Bay. In days gone by the Pass was known as Gantouw (Elands) Pass by the Khoisan people who hunted the beautiful antelope in the area.
The Pass was also one of the main wagon trails to the interior of the country and the tracks of the wagons can still be seen along the old pass.
The Farm enjoys sweeping views over False Bay but also endures extreme weather conditions including high winds and above average rainfall.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

We grow 3 types of olives on Gantouw Farm, the Frantoio, which produces a more peppery oil and Leccino which produces a mild sweet flavoured oil are both from Tuscany and the Californian Mission Olive which is generally used in both table olives and in oil. The oil is an award winning cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Our oil is medium flavoured and full of th fruitiness that South African oil is famous for.
